Because the caliber
of the messengers
determines the
effectiveness with
which the Message is
presented,
missionaries need to
have the finest kind
of training and
experience. Even
more important, they
must have a sterling
character and a
Spirit-filled life
that radiates the
power and love of
Christ. Such high
standards are found
in the life of the
great missionary,
Paul. He was
well-educated and
brilliant. He was a
humble and devoted
servant of his Lord
and Savior. He was
called: "As they
ministered to the
Lord, and fasted,
the Holy Ghost said,
Separate me Barnabas
and Saul for the
work where unto I
have called them"
(Acts 13:2). This
combination of
preparation and
spiritual qualities
was needed in his
day. It is also
needed in our day,
for nothing less can
overcome the
tremendous obstacles
that face the
missionary.
