History

History of EMI:
1971 - 2005

Evangelism Missions Incorporated began as a result of a prayer held in Newport News, VA on January 1, 1971. It was then that Dr. J.C. Keller answered the call to help missionaries send the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. EMI was founded as a local church ministry that would assist other local independent Baptist churches in carrying out the Great commission.

Over the past 34 years EMI has assisted hundreds of independent Baptist churches in sending missionaries around the world. Countless souls have been saved and hundreds of independent Baptist churches have been started. The ministry of EMI has stood the test of time.

In 1997 Dr. Braxton Baker was named as the President of EMI and was serving as the Pastor of Victory Baptist Church in Jenison, AL. Under God's direction he moved the home office from Chattanooga, TN to a neighboring community in Thorsby, AL. where God has provided a new office and a beautiful campus with room to grow. In 2000 Dr. Baker resigned the position as pastor so he could concentrate full-time on his duties as President of EMI. In the past six years God has allowed the Ministries of EMI to strengthen and grow. EMI now has Brother Jimmy Ammons serving as the Foreign Field Director and Brother Ralph Harrelson as the Domestic Director. As a result a multitude of souls are being saved. It is with God's blessing and provision that EMI is forging ahead in the new millennium with the goal of reaching the world with the Matchless Gospel of Jesus Christ.

God has allowed EMI to grow with many missionary families and hundreds of different ministries around the world. We are humbled by the heritage that God has given and impassioned about the vision He has bestowed upon us. With each new passing day the history of EMI grows. Our prayer is that God will continue to bless EMI and allow us to reach every corner of the world with His Gospel.
